TvTropes will not ruin your life. It enriches your life. It makes everything way more interesting.
It’s a powerful tool in Literature, if you can explain the trope in your own words.
For example, I can explain UST (Unresolved Sexual Tension) as what happens when a jerk with an inner heart of gold (Jerk With A Heart Of Gold) falls in love with someone who has a violent exterior, but has a softer center (Type A Tsundere). The difference between them is that the first is good on the inside despite the exterior, while the second is just nice. Being nice doesn’t mean being good. This pairing occurs, because it’s a convenient source of humor, when either side antagonizes the other, chances are, something violent could happen. Also, when either side softens, there’s a very good chance that the other would reciprocate, and you can get a very heartwarming moment if done well (CMoH).
Otherwise, it becomes painfully forced and awkward (Narm), or just plain funny (CMoF).
Also, it makes your stories way more easy to write. When you need, say, some way of showing how awesome your character is, go to Badass, where there’s a list, with things like BadassPreacher, BadassLongcoat, CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass, and even RetiredBadass. All these pages have a good list of examples to draw inspiration from, or you could just copy one of them and call it a ShoutOut.
Anyway, since I don’t really have any ideas now, I’m currently ironing out all the characters, and writing a character sheet while I’m at it. Just for the heck of it, I’m making the characters more of jokers, who uses their power and clout to abuse the grunts and mooks. For example, the character who’s spirit is trapped in a necklace, effectively giving him immortality and wiping the brain of anybody who puts it on, enjoys scaring the crap out of the mooks, and responds to the following names: “God, I didn’t need to hear/see/know that!”, “Where’s the brain bleach?” and “Someone administer me an amnesiac!”
The General in charge of military operations is a MemeticBadass who’s legs are reportedly contain the awesomeness of Chuck Norris, and is not allowed to touch armored vehicles due to his love for “speeding tanks flying through the air, trailing dust, blood and entrails like the hand of a deity cutting through the swathes of enemies like a knife through butter, forcing them to fall to their knees, begging for mercy, only to be cut down by a coaxial machine gun”.
Also, it’s hinted throughout that something terribly large happened in Geneva, 1999. So far, all that’s hinted was that a noodle factory was blown up and the General completely wiped out an enemy army by using Zhuge Liang’s Empty City Plot, getting the enemy army to march in, only for them to be cut down by belt-fed automatic weapons, and lots of guerilla tactics after they were locked in. Also, anytime any character needs a favor done, they’ll remind whoever their asking about Geneva, 1999, and they’ll suddenly acquiesce.
I’m downloading Lucky Star songs. Note the use of the continuous tense. I’ve been trying to download Minami’s and Miyuki's songs for nearly a week, and counting. Each time I try, my download limits exceed, because I’m not the only one on this IP.
On the other hand, I’ve been listening to the other image songs, namely Konata, Kagami, Tsukasa, and Yutaka. Konata’s songs are awesome, with the first using computer keyboards, and the second can be renamed as March of the Otaku easily.
Kagami’s just ranting, like Kyon, but her voice is way better, and at least she can sing. Kyon can’t, so they made it up by making the song comical, and they let his seiyuu snark between the lyrics. Of course, that makes things hard for people transcribing the lyrics...
There are several fanfic ideas I want to explore. Firstly, a complete deconstruction and/or parody of a trope, preferably the DressingAsTheEnemy trope.
Secondly, ContrivedCoincidence, taken UpToEleven, until said character is a MemeticBadass that's ShroudedInMyth, and is the undisputed king of CurbStompBattle, unless you see who he really is, a CosmicPlaything.
It's also worrying that Kyon: Big Damn Hero is two days, and counting overdue.
Back to my CAP stories. I found that having two secret organizations isn't fun enough. I want both organizations to see the other as evil, and thus, I'm using parallels to real-life conflicts. One sees it as the governments, fighting against terrorists. The other sees it as 4chan against Scientology.
It's even more glaring, when we're only looking at it from one side, all the darkly funny crap, the odd moments of heartwarming.
Mabel, Chessmaster.
